As the debate rages on concerning rights and entitlements of the different ethnic groups in Malaysia, one group that is often left out of the discussion is the Orang Asli – the “other” Bumiputera group.
The Orang Asli — the indigenous minority of Peninsular Malaysia, comprising of 18 ethnic subgroups — are only 0.5 per cent of the total Malaysian population, yet they have the highest level of poverty, the highest rate of infant mortality and the lowest life expectancy in the country.
